TSM-2500 Vs Tri-Tool 302
Donut Tools TSM-2500 vs Tri-Tool 302
Welcome to the facing machine face-off
I did a head-to-head comparison between two benchtop tube-facing machines: Tri Tool 302 Donut Tools TSM-2500
I put both machines head to head in facing and squaring 1.5” Tube using identical TB-1506-LC ProFace 1 Tool bits.
Build Quality
both machines are professionally made and appear similar in build design and quality. Both machines have a solid reputation and I would be hard pressed to say bad things about either from a build quality standpoint. These machines will last for years. I may be a little biased (because I designed it), but the TSM-2500 does feature a pretty awesome paint job. Tie for Build Quality
Ease of Use
While both machines deliver professional-grade cuts they differ in ease of use. The 302 has a dual bit cutting head while the TSM-2500 has a 3-bit cutting head this gives you more optionality in setting up complex cuts all in a single pass. More importantly the 302 sadles (collets) took over 2 minutes to change while the TSM-2500 collets were changed with 2 fingers in less than 5 seconds. Loading tool bits was the same on both machines and advancing the cutting head worked similar. The time saving and added versality is a clear win for the TSM-2500 Win for TSM-2500
Cut Quality
Both machined had excellent burr-free cuts using the TB-1506-LC ProFace 1 Tool bits. I would be hard pressed to tell the difference between the two and they are both ready to go right into welding. ** Tie for Cut Quality**
Price
The “Money Saving Factor” is the most significant difference. Tri-Tool does not expose pricing publicly, which I find a little cheeky. Whenever we or customers have checked prices, the TSM-2500 has been thousands cheaper. Double check us, go investigate pricing, I’m confident we’ll come out on top. Win for TSM-2500
Final Verdict
Let’s review: 1. Tie for Build quality 1. Ease of use goes to TSM-2500 for faster to install and remove collets and more versatile cut head 1. Cut quality is a tie, and looks great on both 1. Price, the TSM-2500 is cheaper with transparent pricing. Solid win for the TSM-2500
The results speak for themselves, the TSM-2500 is a clear cut winner. Why would you pay more, for something that is harder to use? It’s that simple
